Unusually pronounced red-grape fragrances this time; the wine is usually marked by sauteed apples and butter, but this time it’s all braised beef, shiitakes and honey-mushroom; the palate starts to conform to type, silky and tangy and more apple now; as stylish and reliable as always. It’s a very good intro to farmer-fizz; its flavors are close enough to the mainstream but very few negoçiant Champagnes have this clarity, specificity and articulation. Essentially 50-50 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with the rest Meunier.

Wine Spectator A graceful yet sinewy bubbly, exuding whole-grain bread, mineral, honey and citrus flavors. Well-balanced and on the dry side, with a firm structure and a long, mineral- and vanilla-tinged finish. Drink now through 2010. 5,000 cases made. Score: 92. —Bruce Sanderson, November 30, 2006.

Wine Advocate Smoke, minerals, pears, almonds, and apples are found in the fresh, vivacious scents of the non-vintage Cuvee Sainte-Anne Brut (509 / degorgement 06/2005). An expressive, light to medium-bodied Champagne, its lengthy character reveals lemon-laced minerals and apples in a detailed, feminine format. Score: 90. —Pierre Rovani, December 2005.
